Committees
ABC Committees are member-driven and help set the tone and programming for ABC each year. Serving on a committee is a great way to contribute to the organization while making new connections. ABC Greater Tennessee committees are key to the chapter’s success.
The Membership Development Committee (MDC) exists to grow and maintain the success of ABC through quality membership. The committee works together to seek out future members, involve current members, and enrich the overall member experience on the chapter level. MDC members are expected to recruit at least two new members to ABC each year.
Chair: John Warner (ABEC Electric)
The Workforce Development Committee exists to support, promote, and enhance the Craft Training Apprenticeship Program. The committee works with the Education Director to continually improve the program. The committee also provides disciplinary assistance regarding absenteeism and classroom performance.
The members share a passion for education in their respective workplaces. Each member helps in promoting our program by reaching out to potential students and sharing the opportunities our program has to offer.
Members also work to establish sponsor partnerships to help support our labs, craft training competitions, and annual graduation ceremony.
Chair: Bryan Hay (SKANSKA)/Melissa Smithson (DWC Interiors)
The Legislative Committee supports the ABC strategic goal of increasing political influence of the Association to advance the merit shop philosophy and free enterprise. It is responsible for evaluating the Association’s government policies as they relate to workplace issues to ensure consistent compliance with those policies.
The Legislative Committee is the Association’s voice to ensure that ABC continues to be recognized as the premier resource for construction workplace issues before local and state government.
Through a variety of social and educational events, the Events Committee provides opportunities for member companies to build relationships, grow individuals, and receive recognition. ABC events encourage chapter participation and social engagement between members.
The committee plans and executes our biggest annual events including, but not limited to, the Middle Tennessee Golf Tournament, Member Cookout, Contractor’s Showcase, and Excellence in Construction Awards.
Committee meets approximately 6-8 times annually.
Chair: Aaron Denton (Brown & Brown)
The primary goal of the Safety Taskforce is to help ABC ensure that members are meeting all safety standards to keep our workforce safe.
The Safety Taskforce is comprised of member company safety professionals who meet quarterly to discuss important safety changes and guidelines. The committee works to shape safety programming offered through ABC and aids ABC staff in providing relevant training opportunities to the membership. The Safety Taskforce is handpicked of the very best in safety to ensure we are providing the best possible programs for our members.
Ensures the associations financial health by assisting with the development of the annual budget, monitoring income/expenses, safeguarding assets, and providing transparent financial reports to the Board of Directors.
